Dr. Samson Chama holds a PhD in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia and an MSW from the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia.
He has over 15 years of practice experience in the areas of international social work, study abroad and internationalization of HBCUs, criminal justice, HIV and AIDS and human rights, and mental health.
He has worked as a government professional during which time he collaborated with several international organizations including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Currently, he is a full professor of social work at Alabama A&M University where he recently served as Interim Chair of the Department of Social Work, Psychology and Counseling.
He continues to engage in active research as well as being an active scholar with numerous published peer reviewed articles, peer reviewed chapters and peer reviewed books. Further, he is actively involved with various local and international non-profit organizations.
